The Central Pacific region of Costa Rica is composed of a narrow strip of coastal land stretching from just north of Jacó, southeast of the Golfo de Nicoya, down south to Marino Ballena National Park, just above of the Osa Peninsula. These magnificent beaches are flanked by spectacular deep green mountains (year-round), which highlight the awe-inspiring landscape. The Central Pacific region, a combination of lush tropical vegetation and ocean panorama, has scenery unlike any other.

The Central Pacific Region of Costa Rica

Sandy Beaches and protected wilderness areas are the primary draw to this region of Costa Rica. Lined with stunning mountainous coastline, these seemingly endless soft sandy beaches are some of the most easily accessible in Costa Rica. It is no wonder that this region is one of the most frequently visited in all of Costa Rica.

The Central Pacific is more mountainous than the Costa Rica's Caribbean coast, providing a more arid climate which translates into less rainfall. However, still plan on bringing a rain jacket as showers are always a possibility. The Central Pacific is not as humid as the Caribbean coast or the South Pacific, although it’s more so than the Nicoya Peninsula, located to the northwest.

The incredible landscape along Coastal Highway 34 features some of the region's most exotic flora and fauna as well as national Parks and nature Reserves. The Manuel Antonio National Park, one of the most renowned in the entire world, is just one of the region's many places of interest. The ocean off this stretch of coast provides the ultimate setting for a variety of water activities such as Surfing, sport fishing and Scuba Diving.

Steep verdant cliffs swallowed by the vast ocean, picturesque beaches as well as breath-taking forests and mangroves, all rich in diverse natural beauty, make up the allure of Costa Rica's Central Pacific region. All it takes is a short two hour car or bus ride from San José. With that in mind, the Central Pacific and all of its spectacular offerings are just an arms length away!
